Fall into Yoga!

Happy Fall to my Yogini and Yogi friends! This is the season of change when we start to pull out the sweaters and watch the color show on the trees.   The fall is a bittersweet time for me because I have such a love for the summer.   It is always a little melancholy for me to see those dog days of summer slip away for another year.   I have been countering those feelings by staying outdoors more.   I am preparing for the Leaf Peeper 5K running race so just going out for a run always makes me feel good. There are still peppers, parsley, brussel sprouts, and kale in the garden that need picking.     I also am really enjoying how tasty the apples are this year.   Yum! In addition to these things, I always, always, always come back to yoga.   This summer was a wonderful yoga filled time with festivals and outdoor classes.   More recently I have started back to my teaching indoors again at The Edge in Williston, VT and an afternoon ...

Summer!

Hello!   As I start to see the trees begin to change color already here in Vermont, I am reminded that there is still plenty of summer with us but the maples hint to me of the fall days to come.   Change is always around us.   It is our ability to travel through the change (and how gracefully we embrace that change!!) that is an indicator of our steadiness and ability to manage stress and the goings on of life. In this season of harvest and bounty, give yourself some time to relax, enjoy a little time outside, take some deep breathes and soak in the later part of the summer with the enthusiasm of smelling a beautiful bouquet of roses!   Let the summer fill your soul and let the sun and green charge your batteries.   Peace and Sunshine to you all! The CLOSER! Yogini does the marathon relay!

Hi All, It has been a while since my last post I know, so I am making up for lost time with a rather longish post about my recent adventure running in a relay for the Vermont City Marathon and Relay.   I'd LOVE to hear your comments or stories of running adventures that you done so please leave a comment in the box below! Soon I will post some great yoga stretches for runners so stay tuned.  Better yet, comment and tell me what some of your favorite asanas are before and after running. Peace Jean The Closer Yesterday I was in the Vermont City Marathon in a 5 person relay for the first time ever!  If you had asked me a year ago if I would be participating in a marathon, I would have probably laughed.  “Not likely…”  Running, I have told myself for a while is not my thing.  Our marathon leader Suzanne assured me that it was a walking team and I could run if I wanted to.  Great, that gets me off the hook.  No pressure to run.  Hello? ...

How to wash your yoga mat

If you like to practice yoga then you probably have your own yoga mat and may be wondering what the best way to wash your mat is.  Keeping your mat clean will prevent bacterial growth and make your mat last longer.  I have tried various ways to wash my mat and have found the following to be the best way This method will give your mat a thorough cleaning.   Run a few inches of cool or slightly warm water into a bathtub and add a few drops of mild, non-oily detergent. Make sure you don’t add too much soap or it will be difficult to rinse away completely. Submerge the yoga mat in the water. Let it soak for 10 – 15 minutes. Gently rub down both sides of the mat, top to bottom, using the soft side of a sponge, or washcloth.  Rinse the yoga mat out very thoroughly in clean water, making sure you get rid of any soap residue.  I turn on the shower in the tub and rinse it under the spray. To dry your yoga ma...
